When opportunity knocked, Crystal Delgado answered! After a 7-year career in human resources, Delgado decided to stay at home with her two kids, who were both under 2 years old at the time. Child care was too expensive and she preferred to stay home with them anyway! When a family member asked her to make traditional Mexican snacks for a Quinceañera, they unknowingly changed Delgado’s life. She explains the challenges and rewards of suddenly finding herself with a full fledged business.

What inspired you to get into foodservice?
“I was asked to cater traditional Mexican Botanas aka snacks for a family member’s Quinceañera, a traditional Mexican celebration. From that event, I was once again asked to cater future events for guests at the event. I decided to step out on faith and turn a long time goal into a dream. I am able to be a present mom with my babies yet continue to provide for them as my business grows.”
What do you love about your business?
“I love that Crystal’s Mobile Snack Bar continues to pay homage to my family’s Mexican traditions, and I am able to share my personal culture through food. We aim to bring unity at all our events by providing snacks that bring people together with the most charming set up. People are able to laugh, talk and most importantly, share a snack together.”
What’s the most interesting thing to happen to your business?
“The coolest thing that has happened to my business is growth!! I didn’t think I would be able to provide for my family since deciding to become a stay at home mom with both my babies, however, I am amazed at the opportunities I have had to cater for special events such as Quinceañeras, graduations, baby showers, baptisms and other special events in people’s lives. Being a part of customers’ special days brings me the utmost joy!”
What is the biggest challenge you’ve had to overcome?
“The biggest business challenge I have overcome is believing that I can make this dream a reality. Being a small business owner, I wear multiple hats all day long because I am in charge of every aspect of my business. However, I love the challenge and the opportunity to be at home with my babies and am able to teach them first hand to work hard for their dreams.”
Which Cambro products help make your business work?
“At the moment, I use Cambro Food Containers to store and transport food, at our events we use Cambro Camwear Pans and we just upgraded to the Cambro lids with a notch for spoons to ensure safety and the utmost freshest quality at all our events.”
