Cambro Featured Business of the Week

Cambro’s Business of the Week: Tom’s Pizza Seoul

Tom Thurston, a born and raised Kiwi, moved from New Zealand to Seoul, South Korea, in 2014 to try something different. In 2018, Thurston opened the doors of Tom’s Pizza Seoul. His menu features American pizzeria favorites like buffalo wings, mozzarella sticks, beer, and—of course—pizza.

What inspired you to get into foodservice?

“I wanted to get out of school at any cost. So, I started out as a dishwasher and went from there. I first used Cambro at a Hilton hotel.”

What do you love about your business?

“Meeting new people and making them smile! My shop is the only authentic foreign-owned pizza shop in Seoul. Korean pizza is typically sweet with toppings like corn or sweet potatoes.”

What’s the most interesting thing to happen to your business?

“When I started the shop, I told people I would be famous with a line of people out the door and then it really happened. Even though we opened in a back street in middle of nowhere, we’ve attracted a lot of customers from Instagram, some famous people dropping by and most recently, a YouTube video. You just gotta trust yourself.”

What is the biggest challenge you’ve had to overcome?

“Working in a small space, but luckily Cambro containers stack so well.”

What Cambro products help make your business work?

“Containers for sauce, salad, and beer pitchers. Cambro has the best products in the game.”
