Delicias Bakery & Some is a beloved establishment that first opened its doors in the summer of 1991 in Los Angeles, Calif. Inspired by the Spanish word “Delicias,” meaning “delicacies,” the bakery set out to delight its community with an array of high-quality baked goods. Over the years, as its reputation and customer base grew, so did its vision. Embracing the creativity of a new generation, Delicias expanded its menu to include freshly crafted foods and a full espresso and coffee bar. The addition of “& Some” to its name reflects this evolution, offering more than just baked treats—a place where tradition meets modern flavors.
1. What inspired you to get into foodservice?
“Food has always been at the heart of my family’s traditions, a constant source of connection, joy and cultural pride. Growing up, we didn’t just eat to nourish; we gathered around meals to celebrate, share stories and pass down recipes that have been in our family for generations.
That deep-rooted love for food and the way it brings people together naturally inspired me to pursue foodservice. I’m passionate about sharing these rich flavors with others, continuing to spread the essence of ‘Nuestra Tradición,’ and introducing new tastes and experiences to the world.”
2. What do you love about your business?
“What I love most about our business is the sense of community. We’ve built strong relationships with our regular customers, many of whom have become like family. Their loyalty, support and shared passion for Delicias motivate us every day to keep doing what we love. The connections we’ve made with our customers are truly the heart of our business, and they inspire us to continually grow and improve.”
3. What’s the most interesting thing to happen to your business?
“The most interesting thing to happen to our business was in 2018 when we made the decision to expand our menu with vegan options. We started by introducing refreshing aguas frescas, always prepared in the amazing Cambro Translucent Rounds, and quickly followed that with vegan pan dulce. From there, we didn’t stop— we launched a full food menu, where every dish can be made vegan. It was a game-changer, allowing us to offer something for everyone while staying true to our roots of delicious, authentic flavors.”
4. What is the biggest challenge you’ve had to overcome?
“The biggest challenge we’ve faced has been navigating the post-pandemic landscape. The foodservice industry was hit hard, and like many businesses, we’ve had to adapt to significant changes. We’re currently undergoing a major shift, finding new ways to stay afloat while balancing evolving customer needs, supply chain issues and rising costs. It’s been a tough journey, but we’re committed to making the necessary adjustments to continue serving our community and keeping our doors open.”
