Kaydy Hernandez understands the power of community. While working towards a degree in English literature, Hernandez simultaneously started Berry Cup. When the community supported Berry Cup, they were in turn supporting her college education.
Berry Cup offers a selection of gorgeous chocolate-covered strawberries, caramel apples, fresas con crema and more. Hernandez relies on Cambro to keep her delicate creations safe during transport in the warm Texas heat.
What inspired you to get into foodservice?
“What inspired me to get into foodservice was my desire and determination to attend college. I attended Texas A&M International University and graduated with a bachelors in English literature at the age of 21.”
What do you love about your business?
“My favorite part about running Berry Cup is encouraging others to pursue their college education and open their small business. Something that I love about my business is serving and attending to people with the best quality ingredients and customer service.”
What’s the most interesting thing to happen to your business?
“The most interesting thing that has happened to me has been seeing my community cheer me on while I studied and then graduated from university. I think it was such an amazing experience to have a community be able to support my business all while funding my college education.”
What is the biggest challenge you’ve had to overcome?
“One of the biggest challenges that I have overcame is criticism and judgment because of my age. I do understand that I am on the younger side of running my business and I have overcome the negativity that comes with it. Now, I inspire others to pursue their entrepreneurial careers.”
Which Cambro products help make your business work?
“Where do I even begin? Cambro and Berry Cup are practically best friends. I purchased two of the Cambro GoBoxes with Beverage Holders. My Cambro has helped me transport products to hardworking nurses, labor and delivery nurses, law enforcement officers, and teachers. It has helped me maintain the quality and consistency of my products because they do require refrigeration and cold temperatures. My Cambro is one of the biggest necessities when delivering.
My Cambro even comes in handy when I need to store chocolate. Since it’s insulated, it has helped my chocolate last six months. 10/10! We love Cambro!”
