Cambro’s Business of the Week: We Luv Spudz

A plain potato is good, but a loaded Spud is exceptional. After running a successful catering business for 8 years, Jeff Amoo decided to start a food truck dedicated to one of the most appealing vegetables: the potato. Amoo developed the We Love Spudz menu after creating random items with his family, and because “everyone loves potatoes.” We know we definitely haven’t met a potato we didn’t like!

What inspired you to get into foodservice?

“Food is the number 1 universal language; we all speak it. In my household, I’ve always assisted my mom in cooking for the family and big events, and it naturally carried over. Now, we are able to serve everyone’s love language.”

What do you love about your business?

“Seeing customers and clients return for some good eats. We are family oriented business and try to create a vibe everywhere we go. Spudz is special and unique because we allow customers to build their own and modify as they please; very few if any food truck companies offer that. Nobody offers a loaded sweet potato like we do.”

What’s the most interesting thing to happen to your business?

“Within the first 6 months of opening the food truck, we were able to service 2,500 medical workers and contractors in Beaumont, Texas, with minimal hiccups.”

What is the biggest challenge you’ve had to overcome?

“The biggest challenge we’ve overcome is building our food truck from the ground up by ourselves to code standards.”

Which Cambro products help make your business work?

“We keep two Cambros on the truck to keep our potatoes and smoked meats warm and our two off the truck Cambros allow make it easy to transport big catering items, whether they’re hot or cold. They allow for a professional look and great functionality.”
