Chef Whiners Martinez is using Caribbean flavors and spices to create gourmet comfort foods in Bronx, New York. After growing up in the Dominican Republic, Martinez worked for several national chain restaurants before beginning a new venture inspired by his roots that he named LateMunch. Regularly available for pickup and delivery, Martinez created an eclectic pop-up experience over the summer in the Bronx.

What inspired you to get into foodservice?

“I’ve always been a foodie and I stared cooking at age 12 in the Dominican Republic. Once I hit NYC, I started my way up from frying at Popeyes, working in well-known restaurants in Times Square like Bubba Gump and Hard Rock Café to a more elegant catering company in Tarrytown until I decided I could do this for myself!”

What do you love about your business?

“Bringing all types of cultures together with my food and allowing everyone from my block and beyond to enjoy gourmet comfort food at an affordable price.”

“In the beginning, I was the chef, delivery driver and accountant all at the same time! Now, I am blessed to have a great team beside me.”

Which Cambro products help make your business work?

“The Hot Boxes (UPC400) 100%. They help keep my catering trays of food nice and hot, which is less stress as a chef; I know it will be hot for hours!”
