Lawrence - storage

We’re starting a new series called Meet the Camily (Cambro Family), where we’ll introduce you to some of the people that make your favorite products possible. From manufacturing to distribution to corporate, every Cambro employee has a story to tell. Our first story comes from Lawrence Clayton, who works at one of our manufacturing facilities in Huntington Beach, California.

What is your job title?

Injection Plant Manager

How long have you worked at Cambro?

27 years; 20 years as Injection Plant Manager

What is your role at Cambro?

“Over the injection department, I am in charge of overseeing all of the activities involving production. I have three shift managers that report to me and they also have individuals that report to them. My job is to make sure that they have what they need in order to get the job done, such as the right schedules, the right equipment, the right tools, and things like that. Kind of do an overview of what our needs are and also what our demands are in terms of what customer demands are and we just kind of filter that down.”

Lawrence’s long-tenure is not out of the ordinary at Cambro. What keeps you with Cambro?

“Any time you’re at a company for a long period of time, the company has to present something to you that’s going to make you want to stay, to want to be committed. Here at Cambro, there is that ability to grow—grow not only within yourself but in terms of your career path, but also to be able to watch others grow along with you. Cambro gives us that. It gives us that opportunity to make sure that we are doing all that we can to be the best that we can be.”

Describe the culture at Cambro:

“Here at Cambro, we have a diverse group of individuals. One of the things that remains common amongst everyone is that they want to do a good job. Just by working with that, we’re able to bring everybody together. No matter what culture you came from, it’s only one culture here at Cambro and that is to do the best for our customers.”

What is your favorite part of your job?

“Working with people. I love interacting with individuals, especially when you see people grow, when you see a person come in at one level and develop and grow into the next level. Those are the different things that really inspire me. Being able to mentor is another thing that inspires me so that right there makes it well worth my time to come in every day.”

How have you observed growth within the employees at Cambro?

“Just like it was when I first started here, the same opportunities exist today. As long as an individual is willing to make the sacrifice, willing to do what they need to do to get the skillset that they need, yes opportunity is here. I’ve seen packers become technicians and supervisors. I would say as a manager, that’s one of the key things that you have to provide to your team, the ability to grow.”
