If there’s something about the coronavirus pandemic that will leave a lasting impression on everyone, it’s the vital importance of handwashing. Although foodservice professionals are extremely familiar with handwashing regulations, the coronavirus pandemic has escalated how people think about the risks of cross-contamination. Previously, handwashing in foodservice operations was largely connected to food safety. Now, the coronavirus pandemic has brought foodservice professionals from behind-the-scenes to the front lines, increasing the cross-contamination risks associated with hand-to-hand and hand-to-surface contact.
Whether you’re distributing at a school or handing out deliveries curbside for a restaurant, providing Cambro’s CamKiosk Hand Sink Cart for employee handwashing is essential. The CamKiosk Hand Sink Cart has two 5-gallon freshwater tanks and is compatible with 110V electrical outlets, guaranteeing enough hot or cold water for up to 70 hand washings. Designed to go anywhere you need it, the CamKiosk Hand Sink Cart is equipped with double stainless-steel sinks, two 7.5-gallon wastewater bins, a hand soap dispenser and a paper roll holder. This kiosk functions the same as any fixed sink, preventing employees from having to leave their position outside to properly wash their hands in between pickups.
If your employees wear gloves while distributing food, you may think that alone will be enough, but Food Quality and Safety emphasizes the importance of washing your hands in addition to wearing gloves. They say, “…the purpose of gloves is more to act like a second layer of skin for protecting employees, not the food or others.”
Keep safety and sanitation the top priority at your operation by equipping employees with proper handwashing stations in every area of service. Instructing employees to wash their hands outside while they’re distributing food promotes transparency while being efficient and food safe. Anyone picking up food at your operation will have the peace of mind that you are doing everything you can to keep them healthy.

A reminder from Food Quality and Safety about how to properly wash your hands:
- Wet hands with water. The water helps prepare the hands for soap so the soap can work its way around the hands. The federal food codes recommend employees wash their hands in at least 110° F water after using the restroom.
- Lather soap between hands for at least 20 seconds. Concentrate on rubbing around and underneath fingernails and the cuticle area, which is where germs tend to reside.
- Rinse hands thoroughly.
- Dry hands.
- Use a paper towel to turn off the faucet.
- If desired or available, apply sanitizer after washing hands or in between washings.
