Cambro’s Business of the Week: 20Twenty Kitchen

When 2020 gave Chef Alex Stickland lemons, he made them into a new business. 20Twenty Kitchen is built upon a classic beloved sweet treat: chocolate chip cookies. Working as a private chef during the pandemic, Stickland happened upon the concept of 20Twenty Kitchen while making meals for charity. The 12-year veteran chef explains his path to success.

What inspired you to get into foodservice?

“A love of food and seeing the positive affect it has on people, bringing joy to others. My main background is in restaurants and hotels, and I’ve been working privately for the last eight years. I’ve worked with different clients where I moved all over to the Caribbean, Europe, America and now I’m living in Los Angeles.”

What do you love about your business?

“It’s an opportunity to give back. With 10 percent of profits going to charity, not only do we get to provide a delicious product and service on a daily basis, but it also enables us to give back. Before we were giving to Black Lives Matter, but now we are giving to One Fair Wage. It’s to do with a lot of key workers in the hospitality sector that have been out of work. We started 20twenty kitchen during the pandemic, so I guess seeing it grow through this challenging time and seeing the joy it has brought to so many is pretty cool.”

How did you come up with the concept for your business?

“We were donating meals to key workers in hospitals. I basically had this pop-up out of the house where we were making fried chicken sandwiches. As part of the meal boxes, we started making cookies. It came together with this vegan cookie recipe and it just spiraled from there. So many people were just asking for the dough to eat and bake at home. And then with the pandemic and the whole not crossing households and health and safety guidelines, it made sense to just sell the dough as it is.”

What is the biggest challenge you’ve had to overcome?

“We haven’t overcome it as of yet. Packaging and shipping have been our main obstacles, and we are close to being able to ship nationwide which is very exciting.”

What Cambro products help make your business work?

“We use all Cambro products to store our dry goods to keep them sealed and preserve freshness. We also use GoBoxes® for all our deliveries, they can’t be beat and are a pleasure to work with on daily basis. For my other business, Chef Stickland, private household stuff, I use them for everything.”
