When Parker Cook and his wife launched a sourdough pizza trailer back in 2022, they didn’t expect it would quickly blossom into the popular microbakery, Basil & Bloom. The catchy name, inspired by yeast (“Bloom”) and fresh ingredients (“Basil”), came from a spontaneous moment while browsing a pizza cookbook. Parker shares, “I really liked a one-word name, and my wife suggested something alliterative. When I saw a basil leaf on a pizza book, it clicked—Basil & Bloom.”
Parker's Culinary Adventure
Parker’s love for food started early, cooking alongside his family and deepening after time spent in Italy. His journey was far from conventional, initially studying exercise physiology and culinary arts, then landing a role as a research chef. But the call of entrepreneurship led him away from the corporate kitchen to support his wife’s online business, giving him more time to master his true passion: sourdough baking. Parker explains, “Leaving my full-time job gave me the freedom to dive deeper into sourdough and really understand its intricacies.”
Making Sourdough Simple
What started with pizzas quickly grew into a full-fledged fascination with sourdough bread. Parker’s clear, approachable style of teaching took off online, simplifying sourdough techniques and challenging popular myths like maintaining unnecessarily large starters or insisting on cold fermentation. “I never saw myself as a teacher,” Parker admits, “but when people kept coming back and telling me my methods made sense, it gave me the confidence to keep going.”
Growing the Baking Community
Basil & Bloom didn’t just teach baking; it built a community. Through genuine interactions, humor, and behind-the-scenes content, Parker connected deeply with followers. Engaging series like baking marathons helped forge a loyal following, eager for both practical baking tips and relatable content.
Cambro’s Role in the Bakery
For Parker, Cambro products are essential. Cambro Rounds are the heroes of his kitchen, perfect for everything from storing sourdough starters to managing ingredients. Flour bins and proofing containers from Cambro help streamline his baking process, ensuring consistent, quality results every time. Parker emphasizes, “The six-liter Cambro Rounds are my absolute go-to. They’re perfect for starter storage and make everything so much easier.”
Creative Baking Adventures
Always looking to innovate, Parker regularly experiments with exciting recipes, such as the ambient-proofed sourdough loaf ready in just five hours. Basil & Bloom thrives on breaking baking norms, combining practical recipes with valuable insights for both new and seasoned bakers.
What's Next for Basil & Bloom?
Parker’s future plans include expanding their course offerings, particularly around sourdough pizza-making, and maybe even adding his passion for barbecue into the mix. Followers can expect more diverse, lifestyle-oriented content that still stays true to the core of baking. “We want to introduce more of my personal interests,” Parker says, “making it a bit more holistic and fun for our community.”
Social Media: A Game Changer
Parker openly credits social media for transforming Basil & Bloom. Platforms like Instagram and TikTok have connected him with major brands and countless new opportunities, showing the power of a dedicated online following. “Social media has completely changed our lives,” Parker reflects. “It opened doors we never imagined possible.”
Basil & Bloom’s journey showcases what’s possible when passion meets creativity and community support. With ongoing innovation and authentic connections, Parker Cook continues inspiring bakers everywhere to explore and enjoy the art of sourdough baking.
