
What inspired you to get into foodservice?
“I’ve been in the food service industry since I can remember. I grew up in the restaurant business and started working for my family-owned Chinese restaurant at a young age; I always admired the hustle and bustle of the restaurant scene. After college, I returned, helped run the business and just kept at it!”
What do you love about your business?
What’s the most interesting thing to happen to your business?
“I think the most interesting thing about the business is just seeing how many people enjoy our products. It’s one thing for you to see someone purchase your products online, but now that we’ve been lucky enough to have our frozen dumplings sold in retailers around the state, it’s crazy to go into a local supermarket and see a stranger pick up a bag of our dumplings and add them to their cart in-person!”
What is the biggest challenge you’ve had to overcome?
“The biggest challenge Cali Dumpling has faced so far would most likely be the learning curve of all the regulations, rules and compliance involved in our manufacturing side of the business. As someone who came from a restaurant background, I always knew about health inspections, etc., but as a manufacturer, it’s an entirely different ball game. But, with anything, you learn as you go, and we figured it out!”
