South Side Party Store isn’t your average convenience store. In addition to the necessities, South Side Party Store offers delicious, fresh lunch specials like pizza, tacos, quesadillas, a salad bar and more. Their goal is to make it as easy as possible for locals to get a good lunch during their short break in the day. Although owner Kaylee Knaggs doesn’t have a background in foodservice, she was a quick study when her family purchased the store. Knaggs explains how South Side Party Store sets itself apart from the traditional quick mart.
What inspired you to get into foodservice?
“My parents purchased their first convenience store in early 2019, right as I was moving home from college. It wasn’t something I had considered, but they needed a closer and I was willing to take on the challenges that came along with it. Now, 4 years later, we’ve expanded with a second location and have worked to create some interesting recipes for our customers.”
What do you love about your business?
“We love our customers and sharing our love of food with them! Most of our business comes from repeat customers from other local businesses and we pride ourselves on being able to provide a quick experience for them, especially when most of our customers only have half hour lunches.”
What’s the most interesting thing to happen to your business?
“We have won our local “Best of the Best” award for convenience store for the last three years in a row!”
What is the biggest challenge you’ve had to overcome?
“We acquired this location in May of 2020, which wasn’t a primetime for businesses to thrive, but 4 years later we are still going strong!
Also, I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design, so, other than cooking at home, food wasn’t really my wheelhouse. Luckily, I am a quick learner.”
