
Nestled in the heart of Downtown Seneca, South Carolina, Hogs and Hops BBQ is a beloved, family-owned gem that turns customers into friends with every visit. This warm and welcoming restaurant is the brainchild of husband-and-wife duo Joey and Melodie, who are both retired from the fire service. Joey, an award-winning pitmaster, and Melodie, a seasoned restaurant industry veteran with over 30 years of experience, bring their shared passion for exceptional barbecue to life. What began as a humble team name for SCBA competitions in 2008 blossomed into a dream realized in 2020 when Hogs and Hops BBQ opened its doors. Here, the love for good food and great company is palpable, making every dining experience truly special.
What inspired you to get into foodservice?
“I worked in the foodservice industry for most of my life before I joined the fire service. We competed in several BBQ competitions and my husband dreamed of having his own little restaurant. We have now been in business in Seneca for over 3 1/2 years.”
What do you love about your business?
“I love seeing people enjoying our food. My husband loves passing on his knowledge about BBQ to those who are just learning about cooking.”
What's the most interesting thing to happen to your business?
“We have worked very hard to turn our customers into our friends. We have also won ‘The Best of the Best BBQ’ the last 2 years as well as ‘The Best New Restaurant’ after only being open for 8 months. It makes us so proud to do what we do.”
What was the biggest business challenge you overcame?
“The size of our building, which is 10 ft. x 15 ft. Due to the size, we have all outdoor seating which can be hindered by the weather.”

“We have 3 large Cambro GoBoxes that we use during busy days, as well as during catering events.”
