Kristen Rezac, Director of Student Nutrition at Lakeville Area Schools in Lakeville, Minn., was unhappy with the wire shelving at her schools. Some spots were duct taped together, but still weren’t completely functional. Plus, the way wire shelving is assembled prevents operators from easily taking it apart if necessary.

“We were able to utilize the corners of the cooler a lot better. With the old shelves, we had a couple of broken shelves; they were duct taped together. Now, they have full use of every shelf that’s in there,” said Rezac.

Efficiency is paramount in a busy kitchen environment. With their wire shelving, Rezac’s staff was forced to play MacGyver to try to make it easier to maintain, and at the end of the year, they had to go through a labor intensive process to thoroughly clean it.
“[Our employees] would have stainless steel baking sheets underneath shelves to try and catch spills,” said Rezac. “Oftentimes at the end of the school year, they’d pull the shelves out and take them out to the loading dock and spray them down with hoses and wash them down.”
With Camshelving, employees can easily lift shelves off and wipe them off or run them through a commercial dishwasher. By maintaining their shelving throughout the year, their shelving is consistently cleaner and no longer needs an event at the end of the year to sufficiently clean it.
"I like the fact that you can pull the shelves off of their running through the dishwasher. They're just easy to clean. They hold out for a long time. I used them in my previous district…I felt like it was a good option for a setting like a cooler or freezer where spills happen and they need to be cleaned up and would be easy to use."

Previously, Rezac’s wire shelving was preventing them from utilizing a significant amount of storage space. Not only were there huge gaps between shelving units, but they also weren’t efficiently using the space underneath their condenser. Camshelving is designed to share posts, which saves space and supports open corners. Now, Rezac’s team has increased their storage space and can easily access items anywhere on their shelving.
“We were able to utilize the corners of the cooler a lot better,” said Rezac. “Now, they have full use of every shelf that’s in there.”
