What inspired you to get into foodservice?
“I discovered my love for baking as a teenager and continued to bake as a hobby for friends and family throughout my 20s.
Everything changed when I met my now husband, who encouraged me to create desserts for his BBQ restaurant, 2M Smokehouse. This led me to pursue baking as a full-time career in 2016. In 2019, I decided to further my skills and knowledge by attending The Culinary Institute of America, and I successfully graduated in the fall of 2020. Since then, I have realized my dream of opening my own bakeshop in Castroville, Texas.”
What do you love about your business?
“I love that we like to do things outside the box. Simple techniques and bold and interesting flavors are our way of life. We are a tiny shop packed with tons of flavor!”
What’s the most interesting thing to happen to your business?
“Our team dynamic! I truly feel that in order to have a successful business, you have to be a good leader/ role model. Love, patience and understanding of your staff is key. Our team is dedicated; they care about the quality of my product and understand that baking comes from the heart, it’s more than just numbers.”
What is the biggest challenge you’ve had to overcome?
“Opening a business with no loans. Yes, we have investors for the property & equipment, but it takes more than just having shiny new toys for a place to succeed. We’ve been able to open and pray we continue to stay open for many more years to come.”
Which Cambro products help make your business work?
“Our containers and shelves! Quarts (deli containers) and rusty shelves are so 2023…Nothing says organized like Cambro’s!”
