Cambro’s Business of the Week: San & Wolves Bakeshop

San & Wolves Bakeshop is crafting a unique niche in Long Beach by offering vegan Filipino pastries. Founded in 2017 by Kym Estrada, San & Wolves started as a fun hobby before blossoming into a full fledged business–including an upcoming brick-and-mortar location opening in Spring 2024. Everything at San & Wolves is free from soy and nuts, mixed with organic sweeteners and made from scratch–even their coconut oil-based butter and sweetened condensed milk!

What inspired you to get into foodservice?

“It’s a hands-on type of career. I love food and creating physical things that bring joy to myself and others. I’ve worked in other industries that are comparably much more glamorous, but being in foodservice is where I feel most rewarded and challenged.”

What do you love about your business?

“We make vegan Filipino pastries, which is simply not available anywhere else. It’s one of a kind and it’s feeding a demand for a growing number of folks who are vegan and Filipino, and also introducing our culture to other communities.”

What’s the most interesting thing to happen to your business?

“I started San & Wolves Bakeshop in 2017. I didn’t take it seriously the first couple years and had no game plan. I just simply wanted to bake my personal recipes! I mean, the business is named after an anime. I had no idea we would gain a loyal customer clientele over the past 6 years, and now we’re getting a whole brick and mortar (opening Spring 2024 in Long Beach).”

What is the biggest challenge you’ve had to overcome?

“Learning how to be a business owner and all the ins and outs that go into opening a storefront. It’s one thing to be a baker and create recipes, but running a business, dealing with numbers, employees, architects, contractors, city permits etc.; Doing all the things I have no background in is so challenging. I haven’t overcome it yet! But, it’s something I’m in the middle of that I am quite confident I will pull off!”

Which Cambro products help make your business work?

“Without a doubt, the food storage containers; I prefer the squares over the round. I use them for all our house made jams, fillings and just about everything. I use the white poly storage boxes a lot too when making wholesale deliveries to the cafes in the area. We drop them off and pick them up at our next restock date. Less waste!”
